BECAUSE THE FIRST TWO DAYS HAPPEN EXACTLY ONCE.

You’ve been waiting for this person your whole life , even if you didn’t know it until a little line appeared on a test, or until someone handed you a photo and said “this one’s yours.”   You’ve been reading all the books, built the registry, washed the tiny clothes. And now you’re standing on the edge of something enormous. The world is about to look completely different. And you’re going to be so deep inside it that you won’t be able to see it clearly for a long, long time.

That’s exactly why I do this.

Fresh 48 photography exists for the hours you’ll spend the rest of your life trying to remember.

The first time someone called you mom and dad out loud. The way your partner looked at the two of you.

The weight of that baby on your chest, finally, after everything.

I’ve photographed a lot of firsts. But I come back to Fresh 48 sessions again and again because no other session carries this kind of weight. It’s not about perfect light or a styled setup. It’s about what’s already in that room.

WHAT IT IS

So, What Exactly Is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session is a lifestyle documentary session that takes place within the first 24 to 48 hours of your baby’s life, usually at the hospital or birth center, while you’re still in that tender, still-figuring-it-all-out bubble. It’s not a newborn session. There’s no setup, no wrapping, no backdrop. You don’t have to do anything except be exactly where you already are. I come to you. I move quietly through your space, watching for the moments you’ll want to keep.

The brand new details that change so fast , the tiny curl at the base of their neck, the way they already have opinions about being put down. By the time you get home, the newborn haze sets in and the hospital stay starts to blur. These images keep it sharp. They give it back to you exactly as it was.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why These Two Days Are Irreplaceable

I know what you’re thinking. I’ll be exhausted. I’ll look terrible. The room is going to be a mess. Can’t we just do a newborn session at home in a few weeks when we’re more settled?

You can, and a newborn session is beautiful, but it cannot give you this time again.

By two weeks at home, the world has already started to come in. Visitors, schedules, the gentle pressure of figuring out your new normal. The hospital room, as unglamorous as it sounds,  is one of the most protected spaces you’ll ever share as a brand-new family. It is just you and your people and this baby who just arrived. That stillness is real. And it is fleeting.

I have watched exhausted parents look at their images and say ‘I’d already forgotten that.’ Not because they weren’t paying attention. Because that’s just how memory works.

I’ve stood in rooms with families who adopted their baby after a long, uncertain road , and by the time I delivered the gallery, we were all crying and holding on to each other. I’ve photographed families who knew this would be their only day with their child. These images hold what memory can’t.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

What You’re Actually Saying Yes To

There is something specific that happens in a Fresh 48 session that doesn’t happen anywhere else: you get to meet each other for the first time, in photographs.

Your baby doesn’t know yet what kind of person they’re going to be. You don’t know what their laugh sounds like, what will make them absolutely furious, what their favorite things will be. All of that is still ahead of you. Everything is wide open.

The possibility in those first hours is unlike anything you’ll experience again, because this is the only moment before any of it has happened yet.

HOW TO PREPARE

3 Tips to Make Your Fresh 48 Hours Truly Memorable

You don’t have to do anything special to make these images beautiful. But here are three things that will make the whole experience feel more like yours.

1. Give yourself a window without visitors.

I know everyone wants to come. Try to protect at least a few hours in those first 48 that are just your immediate family. Not because the photos will be better, though honestly, they will , but because you deserve a moment to breathe without also hosting. Ask your nurses to hold visitors during your session time. Most hospitals will support this without any pushback at all.

2. Pack one simple outfit and let me get the details.

A soft robe, a cozy pj set, a clean nursing top, something that feels like you. Whatever your baby is wearing home, let me photograph those details while they’re still on them: the hospital bracelet, the footprint card on the bassinet, the little striped hat. Those are the things people forget to photograph in the chaos. They’re the things everyone cries over later.

3. Let it be  real.

The snacks on the tray. The balloons someone brought. Even the makeshift bed in the chair because your spouse hasn't left in two days. These are the details that make your story yours, not anyone else’s. I’m going to tidy your room some before I shoot, but I’m also going to document the truth of it because that truth is the part worth keeping.

LET’S TALK

Ready to Reserve Your Fresh 48 Session?

I serve Warner Robins, Macon, and all of Middle Georgia , and I book Fresh 48 sessions throughout the year. Because birth doesn’t follow a calendar, I keep a small number of spots open each month and stay ready to come to you when the time comes.

If you’re expecting and this is sitting with you, let’s talk about what you’re hoping to walk away with and how I can make sure you do.
